Über, unter, neben is an exhibition by the current Residence NRW⁺ fellows. It brings together works by Kanade Hamawaki, Abdoul Karim Martens, Maria Renee Morales Garcia and collective RHO, all of whom have been living and working at the Hoppengarten in Münster for almost a year. The exhibition includes recent works by the artists.

Kanade Hamawaki interdisciplinary works are based on artistic research as well as on conceptual and discursive approaches. They take the form of site-specific interventions, participatory actions or artist’s books. Abdoul Karim Martensexplores processual states of becoming through acts of layering, removal and transformation, creating seemingly organic works in which various materials, forms and references are interwoven with one another. Maria Renee Morales Garcia works primarily with installations, employing various media such as text, textiles and ceramics. By formulating specific questions and using them as material, she seeks to highlight and discuss forms of systematic oppression. The work of collective RHO focuses on large-scale installations that examine the physical, psychological and social aspects of existing structures. At the core of their works is the exploration of bodily experiences and processes of perception.

Über, unter, neben traces the lines connecting these different artistic positions. The works on display explore the potential of different moments of reception and enter into a dialogue from which questions regarding medium, space and community are formulated and materialized.
