Simon Wienk-Borgert, artist
Simon Wienk-Borgert (born 1988 in Baden-Baden) completed his studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 2023, he lives and works in Düsseldorf. Simon Wienk-Borgert develops in his artistic practice a responsive archive of time-based work fragments and invariants through an ongoing process of collecting, decomposing and densifying own and third-party materials. All fragments express a speculative opposition of notion, technique and aesthetic(s) in a diffuse method. Within site-sensitive installations and interventions, a compilations of individual fragments form an ambiguous fabric of relationships. They can exist in open juxtapositions and can consolidate into more static, contained forms. They create oddly familiar impressions and moments of friction since they cannot be brought together coherently. The ambiguity, which results from the encounter of different visual worlds and referential systems, is deliberately chosen. All resulting distortions require their very own personal translations, a possible genesis from memory and intuition: Insufficiency = Opportunity. His works’ multiple legibility may unfold the conceptual idea of a social space. It evolves in the array of possible references and the exchange in front of it. Within collaborative frameworks such as ÆdT—Am Ende des Tages, LA CHAMBRE or the alias unfamiliar Arrangements I have been exploring my involvement and the parameters of what art can be for himself. The long-term work on these projects is continuously informing Simon Wienk-Borgert’s visual language and methods: juxtaposition/adaptation, collision/communication, care/violation. Most recently, he published visualsnow (2023), the first edition in his own publishing house SOLBATEMIM (together with Johanna Terhechte and Ludwig Kuffer). Since 2024 Simon Wienk-Borgert has been part of the artist-run space Linienstrasse in Düsseldorf. Simon Wienk-Borgert
