Nicl Barbro (born 1986 in Soest, Germany) lives and works in Hamburg. Her work moves between painting and sculpture, encompassing half-reliefs and sculptural elements. Her starting point lies in an interest in personal and external experiences. Her focus is on everyday images, revealing depths and vulnerabilities. In doing so, she explores the "shadow impact" and contradictory facets of a situation. In her works, she captures the unpredictable, brutality, and joys of life. Layering images is a crucial approach here, following the workings of our mind. Narratives and images are reconstructed and heterogeneously composed. Barbro's works navigate between moments of overcoming, the unknown or eerie, and the dynamics of possibility and healing.

She received support from the Kunststiftung NRW ("Junge Szene") in 2022 and plans a research trip to Japan in 2024, supported by the Hamburg Authority for Culture and Media. Alongside Rahel Pötsch, she showcased her works at the Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof (Traum von Tuilerien, 2021, Hamburg) and in the MAUER (green sky, soft shoulder, 2023, Cologne). Further exhibitions include Louis et nous 1 (Real Positive, Cologne, 2018), facing the desert (Künstlerhaus Sootbörn, Hamburg, 2021), and Fantomas (8th Salon, Hamburg, 2023). From 2022 to 2023, she was actively engaged in organizational and curatorial roles at hinterconti e.V., Hamburg.
