Marie Sophie Beckmann (born in 1989 in Bremen, lives and works in Berlin) studied Media and Cultural Studies in Düsseldorf, completed the MA programme Curatorial Studies – Theory – History – Critique at the Goethe University and Städelschule in Frankfurt/Main, and earns her PhD in 2021 with a thesis on film practices in the New York downtown scene of the 1980s in the frame-work of the DFG-Graduiertenkolleg Configurations of Film at the Goethe University. From August 2021 she will be academic staff member at the Institute for Art and Visual Culture at the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg.

In her curatorial practice, Marie Sophie Beckmann works with contemporary audiovisual art. She is co-founder of the curatorial platform EVBG, which organizes exhibitions and events with a queer and feminist focus since 2015. In 2019, they were granted the prize for artistic project spaces and initiatives by the Berlin Senate.
