David Reiber Otálora, artist
David Reiber Otálora (born 1992 in Münster) completed his studies at the HfBK Hamburg in 2020. He currently lives and works in Berlin. In his cinematic and sculptural works David Reiber Otálora addresses the many afterlives of colonialism, particularly as they inform the representation, imaginary and ongoing destruction of the tropics. Through atmospherically dense and speculative works, Reiber Otálora resists the epistemic violence of a world reduced to the real. Most recently, he showed at Dortmunder Kunstverein (Unselfing, 2024) and Hamburger Kunstverein (A continetal fast for the eyes and the ears, 2024). Other exhibitions include: Foreigners Know at Klosterruine Berlin (2021), Taking my Thoughts for a Walk by Urbane Künste Ruhr and Dortmunder Kunstverein, Intimate Matter at Bärenzwinger Berlin (2019) and Hi Ventilation at Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof (2019), as well his solo exhibition Tropical Frenzy at Kunstverein Gießen (2019).
